Why Teach in the United States?

Why Hire International Teachers?

Promoting Cultural Understanding

The Exchange Visitor Program promotes mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by educational and cultural exchanges.  Foreign teachers have the opportunity to teach in accredited primary and secondary schools in the United States.  Exchange teachers sharpen their professional skills and participate in cross-cultural activities in schools and communities. They then return to their home country after the exchange to share their experiences and increased knowledge of the United States and the U.S. educational system.

“Our visiting teachers bring a deep understanding of the cultures within the larger culture that is based on our target language. It is shared with the entire learning community and received with respect and trust. In return, staff and students are more appreciative and accepting of anyone from any walk of life.”

– Indiana school administrator

“I am very grateful to Sagamore for allowing me to fulfill my role as a cultural ambassador and teacher. This opportunity has not only enriched my own experiences but has also positively impacted those I teach…teaching in a different cultural context has honed my adaptability, communication skills, and cultural sensitivity. I am committed to sustaining the positive impact of this cultural and educational exchange.”

– C. Ngila

“I have no words to say how grateful I am to work and live this experience as a visiting teacher in the United States. These have been incredible years working as a DLI teacher, sharing my culture, my language, my experience in these classrooms…It is something that both myself and my husband will never forget because the impact on our lives has been great.
